This is why Aamir Khan doesn’t attend any award ceremonies

The one and only reason for not attending award shows is the credibility of such awards whether it Filmfare awards, IIFA or any other.

In case of Mr Perfectionist he used to attend award functions in 90’s. But he lost faith in award functions and stopped attending them after some of his major performances in films including Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1993), Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1994) and Rangeela (1996) went unrecognised.

He lost the first one to Anil Kapoor (for Beta), the other two went to the emerging star of the time – Shah Rukh Khan for Baazigar and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

At that time he quoted :

“My personal experience about award ceremonies is that I don’t trust them so I would prefer to stay away.”

The list of filmfare nominations and award won by Aamir khan till date is given below :

Its not only Aamir khan some other actor/actress avoid such award shows. Few of them are:

Ajay Devgn

He won two National Film Awards for Zakhm (1998) and The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002).

In an interview he told that:

“I feel all awards in India are rigged. You know how the business operates, it’s a money making thing. They have to sell the function to the TV channel, promising that big stars will turn up. So, whichever star says they’ll come and perform, gets the award.”

Akshay Kumar

In television interview to actor Anupam Kher, the actor was quoted saying:

“All these award functions are manipulated. Organisers tell me they will give me an award but will pay half the money. I tell them please pay and keep your awards.”

Akshay, who’s delivered hits such as Dhadkan, Hera Pheri (2000), Aitraaz (2004), Welcome (2007), Singh Is Kinng (2008), Housefull (2010), OMG – Oh My God! (2012) and Boss (2013) to name a few, further said that he believes he deserved an award for his performances in films including Sangharsh (1999), Khakee (2004) and Special 26 (2013).

Kangana Ranaut

At a time when she was expected to win many awards for her performance in Queen. She declared that:

“She will no longer attend film award shows because she finds them “overhyped“. I won some (awards) when I made my debut, and even won a National Award a few years ago. Despite that, I was almost jobless for two years. I think we give it too much respect, and have frankly overhyped it … it doesn’t add up to anything.”

She further revaled that she rejected four awards for Queen and Krrish 3 (2013), and will not attend any awards ceremonies in future.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Known for his stellar acts in films such as Gangs of Wasseypur, Talaash (2012) and Lunchbox (2013), Nawazuddin Siddiqui is both the audience as well as the critics’ favourite.

In an interview he told that:

“I believe that often deserving people are not awarded in Bollywood. I feel a number of actors do a great job, but they aren’t awarded appropriately for their work … There are so many of them (award functions) that the sense of gratification which you should feel on getting an award, is hardly there.”
